DESCRIPTION
This course is part of the modelling line of the bachelor's programme in mathematics, and builds on the course Introduction to Mathematical Modelling. The course focuses on the application of mathematics (to be precise: probability theory and mathematical statistics) to concrete practical problems. It involves a guided project in which the student is to understand a mathematical model for a concrete situation, and to analyse different aspects of it. The mathematical solutions are interpreted in a concrete context. English writing skills are trained as well.
Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) awards credits based on the ECTS system. Contact hours listed under a course description may vary due to the combination of lecture-based and independent work required for each course therefore, CEA's recommended credits are based on the ECTS credits assigned by VU Amsterdam. 1 ECTS equals 28 contact hours assigned by VU Amsterdam.
